The Use of Cartoons as Popular Culture Imagery During Wartime
Cartoons and comic books reached an apex in popularity during World War II, far outselling more “serious” entertainment magazines of the day, such as Life, Look and Time. The value and significance of cartoons, both artistic and educational, as well as how they were used in propaganda, will be discussed using numerous illustrations taken from the 1940’s (the golden age of comics) and beyond.
