Household Hazardous Waste
Clean-Up Day
Volunteers Needed
SATURDAY October 12, 2013

A three-county Household Hazardous Waste consortium is
holding their Annual Collection on Saturday, October 12

We are in need of up to SIX VOLUNTEERS at each of three sites.

What might you be asked to do?

  • HELP unload car trunks and pick-ups
  • GIVE directions to participants
  • COLLECT donations from participants
  • SORT household chemicals and paint and batteries
  • POUR used motor oil into a large container for recycling

You will need to be available from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 12th. With driving time of up to 45 minutes each way, you will be volunteering for 5½ hours and be back in Big Rapids by 1:15 p.m. The actual collection is from 9:00 to noon. Brief, simple training will be provided. Munchies provided by appreciative volunteer organizers.

Gas money will be provided. Please car-pool. Find some friends and volunteer!

This event will collect about two to three TONS (per site) of old paint, house cleaners, pesticides, batteries, used motor oil, mercury thermometers, etc., that would otherwise end up in landfills or in our groundwater. YOU will be helping the environment directly. Dress warm & smart!

Please check your calendar for conflicts before volunteering!
