Lunch & Learn: The Power of Civility

CIVILITY

There is a growing realization that our inability to deal with a broad range of problems could be attributable to the lack of civility in our society today.  Being civil is a heightened awareness of one person to another that is:

  •  Respectful
  • Benevolent
  • Earnest
  • Considerate

Clearly, civility has to mean something more than mere politeness.  People need to be able to raise tough questions and present their case.  A civil society cannot avoid tough but important issues simply because they are unpleasant to address.  In short, any reasonable definition of civility must recognize that the many differing interests which divide our increasingly diverse society will produce an endless series of confrontations over difficult issues.

This Civility Workshop will help you foster thoughtfulness, effective self – expression, and empathy to a wide range of incivility issues. It will be held in the Honors Conference Room, PIC 142C on October 8, 2013 @ 11:00AM. Please RSVP to [email protected] by October 7 to reserve your seat. We will be serving Jet’s Pizza and pop for lunch so don’t miss out on this informative session!!
