Dinner and Learn: Leadership Basics

Join Ferris Honors Alumni  Dr. Shaun Phillips for a “Dinner and Learn” presentation on “Leadership”. Dr. Phillips is the Vice President for Clinical Services and Residency Program Director at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Bronson Health Group.  He is a graduate of Ferris State University College of Pharmacy, which awarded him the Pacesetter Alumni Award in 2012.  He went on to complete a general practice pharmacy residency at Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan.  After his residency, Dr. Phillips received intensive research training at Michigan State University in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, specializing in areas of autonomics and neural control of the cardiovascular system and publishing 4 peer-reviewed papers in journals from the American Physiological Society.  Dr. Phillips also holds an MBA in integrated management from Michigan State University whereby he is Beta Sigma Gamma academic achievement award winner.  He also holds a certificate in pharmacy leadership from Boston University School of Management and is enrolled in the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacist/University of Florida Pharmacy Leadership Academy.

Dr. Phillips will introduce students to and discuss basic leadership theories. The first topic will be introducing the background research and evidence around the impact of leadership in a social context. Next, we will be examining how leaders get their power to influence groups. Lastly, broad leadership categories will be defined and contrasted with management. The group will work through discussing how sources of power and personality can influence the type of leader that a person may become.
