Outstanding Leaders, Spring 2014 LeAnne Barstow and Maddie Herbart

LeAnne Barstow currently serves as President of the Honors Programing Board, as well as ex officio on Honors Student Council. She is also currently one of the student representatives on Honors Council.  Under her leadership the HPB presented a record-breaking Variety Show for the benefit of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mecosta County, and they inaugurated our participation in the ‘Adopt-a-highway,’ cleaning up a 2-mile stretch of M-20 between Clear Lake and Rodney. LeAnne’s unflappable leadership has been a boon to the Honors program this past semester, or, in the words of her nominator, “She works so hard to make sure that everything gets done even when she’s overwhelmed”

Madison Herbart, or ‘Maddie’ as she is known around campus, is currently Vice President of Lambda Pi Eta, the Honors Communication Society, the Community Service Chair (as well as other positions) in Delta Zeta Sorority, the Public Relations Chair of Ferris STARS for Make A Wish Foundation, as well as a member of the Student Psychology Association, the Henderson / Puterbaugh Hall Council and an children’s ministry leader through Standing in the Gap.  In addition, she holds down two jobs and a full course load. Maddie’s leadership extends beyond these formal positions to support the program when needed, for example helping to interview candidates for the Honors Advisor, or presenting about how to get involved with RSOs to sections of HNRS 100.
