Outstanding Peer Mentor, Fall 2014

The motto of the Honors Peer mentor program is ‘We rise by lifting others.” It exists, nominally, to support students transition to the Honors program specifically and to the university as a whole. In reality, peer mentors do much more than that. Their work provides the foundation for all of these columns, and subsequently, all of what our students achieve.

At the Fall 2014 4.0 Awards Dinner, we recognized two peer mentors who were nominated by their mentees and reviewed by the Honors Peer mentoring eBoard, Emily Evans and Nicole Outman:

Emily Evans was nominated as “The best mentor ever!” She has given her time and energy tirelessly to support for her mentees, including helping them prepare for quizzes and speeches and numerous trips to The Rock. In the words of her mentee “Our peer mentor group has become like a small family because of her.”

Nicole was nominated for her extraordinary dedication to her mentees. By ‘putting a fun twist’ on the mandatory meetings, making sure that all her mentees are aware of opportunities available, and orchestrating a group service project, Nicole exemplifies the values of the Peer Mentor Program.
