Together We Can Make a Difference:

An Awareness and Fundraising Campaign to Address Ebola in West Africa

The African Student Union, a registered student organization at Ferris, invites you to participate in “Together We Can Make a Difference: An Awareness and Fundraising Campaign to Address Ebola in West Africa.”

The two-week campaign, which kicks off with an event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the West Campus Community Center, will feature presentations and cultural entertainment following a welcome message from President David Eisler.

Faculty members are encouraged to invite their students to attend and learn more about the history of Ebola, its causes, symptoms and prevention, as well as their fellow students’ efforts to educate and raise funds to help fight the deadly disease in West Africa and around the world.

The event will include presentations by Daniel Noren, a professor of French in the College of Arts and Sciences who was born and raised in Congo in Central Africa, and Dr. Harpreet Singh, a primary care physician and medical director at Michigan Primary Care Partners. A Q&A session will follow.

ASU members will be accepting donations (cash or check) at the event for Africans in Medicine, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that ships medical supplies and personal protective equipment to isolation and treatment centers in Liberia.

The event is sponsored by the university’s Diversity and Inclusion Office, Office of International Education, Office of Multicultural Student Services, Birkam Health Center and Welding Program, and Nawal’s Mediterranean Eatery in Big Rapids.

Donation boxes also will be available at various locations and some events on the Ferris campus as well as Nawal’s Mediterranean Eatery, 111 S. Michigan Ave., in downtown Big Rapids, through Dec. 1.

Please join us, and help make a difference.
