From the press release of the Michigan Pharmacists Association:

The Bowl of Hygeia Award, presented in cooperation with the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, is given to a pharmacist who has made outstanding professional contributions and has participated in community or governmental activities that reflect well on the pharmacy profession.

For more than 10 years, Quinn has been active in his community and dedicated time toward advancing the profession of pharmacy. As the pharmacy manager, vice president and secretary of the Board of Directors for Westlake Drug, Inc., he not only serves patients by delivering counseling services and medication therapy management but also assists with maintaining a viable future for the company through staff and contract management, financial health and other key business practices. In addition to his involvement in community pharmacy practice, Quinn serves as adjunct faculty, a preceptor to student pharmacists and chair of the Honors Alumni Board at Ferris State University (FSU). Through this academic side to his professional career, he is able to foster development of students through providing advanced community practice experiences and ideas for student growth and development.

Quinn has also worked to promote pharmacy in a positive light and bring awareness to practice issues through the media. From 2011-2013, he participated on a public access cable show out of Battle Creek entitled Be Scene on Air. Alongside another pharmacist, Quinn discussed a variety of issues that patients may have where a pharmacist could be part of the solution. He has also been interviewed by a variety of news outlets, including WWMT-TV Newschannel 3 in west Michigan and MLive, on topics such as pseudoephedrine and methamphetamine legislation.

In addition to his dedication to pharmacy, Quinn has a long-standing commitment to his community church. He currently serves as senior warden for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Quinn is also an Education for Ministry mentor; volunteer acolyte, chalice bearer and lector; and a member of the church’s Stewardship Committee. Quinn supports many other local organizations as well such as the American Cancer Society. Westlake Drug has participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event since 2000.

Within MPA, Quinn has served on the New Practitioner Committee, attended media relations training in 2009 and participated in the Great Lakes Young Pharmacists Leadership Conference. He also served on the MPA Executive Board from 2010-2012.

Michigan Pharmacists Association, representing the nearly 9,000 pharmacists and 15,000 pharmacy technicians in Michigan, strives to serve members by providing support, advocacy and resources that ultimately improve patient care, safety, health and the practice of pharmacy.
