This is a two-part event. You must be able to attend the Lunch & Learn on April 16th at 11am in the Honors Conference Room, PIC 142, in order to get free tickets to the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park on Sunday April 19th. The Honors Program will be providing a limited number of tickets to this event on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please RSVP early for both events by emailing [email protected] by noon on Wednesday, April 15.

We will depart campus at 10am on Sunday April 19th, meet at the Meijer Gardens at 11am and return to campus between 4 and 5pm. There is a cafeteria at the Gardens, but you may also consider bringing lunch or a snack to get you through the day.

Meijer Gardens is a 158-acre site featuring a world class collection of Modern Sculpture. The Gardens feature works by many modern artists: Rodin, Picasso, George Segal, Joan Miro are just a few examples. Contemporary artists including Andy Goldsworthy, Kiki Smith, and Jaume Plensa and the Chinese Dissident Ai Weiwei make this one of the richest cultural resources in the area. On Thursday April 16th, we will meet to discuss some of the art and artists we will see on Sunday. We will watch excerpts from a documentary on Andy Goldsworthy, and look at some examples of other artists. On Sunday, we will meet at the Gardens at 11am and explore the art and gardens at your own pace. Bring a camera, a sketch pad, a journal, etc. You will be asked to make something in response to your experience. If you have questions about the event please contact Charlie at .
