Honors students have officially been invited to join one or more of Ferris’s two concert bands and string orchestra as an Honors RSO activity. Directed by Scott Cohen, ensembles meet only once a week for 90 minutes. Participation allows you to earn up to 5 band/orchestra credits towards the 9 Cultural Enrichment credits you need, but if you do not need these credits you can still participate. Members could also potentially earn an “Activity Based Scholarship” for each group they’re involved in if they participate for both semesters (credit or no-credit).

A little more about each ensemble:

Concert Band (Music 262): This band is a hybrid university/community band, with about 50% Ferris students and 50% adult community members. It meets once a week on Monday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the Music Center’s Band Room. Their first meeting was Monday, August 31st but you are still able to join.

Symphony Band (Music 160): This band is primarily an all-university student band, with very few community members. It meets once a week on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the Music Center’s Band Room. Their first meeting was Wednesday, September 2nd but you are still able to join.

Chamber Orchestra (Music 271): This ensemble is a blended university/community String Orchestra, with both Ferris students and community members. It meets once a week on Tuesdays from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Music Center’s Band Room. Their first meeting was Tuesday, September 1st but you are still able to join.
