Volunteers Needed for Red Cross Day of Service and Learning

We are still in need of volunteers for the Red Cross Day of Service and Learning. This is a unique way to earn service hours through education about fire safety. If you are looking for a service opportunity that does not involve clean up or manual labor, this is the one for you!

Student volunteers will canvass assigned homes within Big Rapids providing preparedness education and materials between 10am and 5 pm completing 25 resident preparedness educational interviews.  Each presentation will be 15 to 20 minutes providing an emphasis on fire safety and making an escape plan.  Student volunteers will document preparedness presentations.  As a reward for participation residents who make a plan will be given a chance to win a $45 value preparedness kit.

Goal: Reach 625 Big Rapids households with fire escape plan

This event is part of the 2015 Day of Service & Learning; a project started in 2014 by the Honors Program, that provides as many students as possible with a meaningful service opportunity at the start of the year. This project also provided the community with valuable help and support from Ferris. Please check out all opportunities and sign up on OrgSync. To get credit for your service hours please complete the survey for the event and log your hours.

This event will take place on Saturday, September 19th from 10:00am till 5:00pm. Students will meet at Pickell Hall. To sign up, click here!

If you have any questions regarding the event or OrgSync please contact Charles Malone, the Honors Advisor at [email protected].
