AIESEC is the largest student run organization in the WORLD. They have over 70,000 members worldwide with over 2400 universities represented, and they have a presence in 126 countries and territories. So what do they do? They develop young individuals into global leaders by sending them abroad on volunteer and internship opportunities.
How do they do this? They work with other AIESEC chapters across the world. AIESECers will go to companies in their home countries and find opportunities for international students. Then, other AIESEC chapters have access to these opportunities, and match students from their school to them!
AIESEC helps these students through the whole process of going abroad, as well. They help you through the application process, help you learn about the country’s culture, help you prepare for culture shock, and keep in contact with you while you’re abroad. Then, the host chapter will greet you at the airport, throw you an awesome welcome party, and be a huge support system during your time abroad.
Why go abroad? Going abroad gives you a unique experience that most college students don’t have. Being able to say you went abroad alone will allow the employer to understand the multitude of unique strengths you have an can bring to their country.
It shows you’re adaptable. You can put yourself into a new situation and excel. It doesn’t matter how foreign it is to you. You can feel uncomfortable, confused, even scared, but you don’t let any of that bring you down. You can succeed in any scenario, so the employer knows they can challenge you. They can challenge you, so they know you can grow and develop positively within the company. This is what employers want. They want to know you can impact their company positively, and going on an international experience will help prove that you can.
Your collaboration and communications skills will improve. You’ve learned how to work with people from other cultures, and this can be one of the hardest things for people to do. People of different cultures have difference work ethics, priorities, and values that can conflict with your own. So, being able to work through these differences and be able to work with anyone makes you extremely employable.
Leadership will be eminent in you. You will gain world experience, and you’ll have the confidence to achieve anything. You’ll feel unstoppable and motivated to make a difference.
Finally, you get to travel and experience amazing places. Try new things, make new friends, and have the experience of a lifetime. We’ve never heard of anyone regretting going abroad. You have no reason not to! So go abroad with AIESEC, and let them help you become a global leader!
