The Ninth Annual Honors Art Show will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 7:00pm, in conjunction with the Ferris State University Fine Art Gallery and the opening ceremonies of the Big Rapids Festival of the Arts. The Honors art pieces will be displayed in the lobby outside of the Fine Art Gallery. The theme of this year’s show is “Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl.” Below is a short definition and description of the theme.
“Inspired by the Smithsonian Folkways non-profit record label; “Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl” is an exhibition exploring ways in which music has transcended barriers. The impetus is the cultural diversity of music and musicians. Indie (Independent is defined as a form of creative endeavor that can be protected through a copyright, trademark, patent, industrial design or integrated circuit topography. Incubator is defined as a company or part of a company that specializes in developing artists and writers. The incubator, Ferris State University Fine Art Gallery, invited numerous artists and students at both Kendall and Ferris to independently create work all about the vinyl.”
Submissions from Honors students can adhere to this theme or not and all forms of art may be entered such as photographs, sculptures, drawings, quilts, knitting, and paintings; let your imagination run free! Artwork must be something that you created since the beginning of the Fall 2015 semester.
