Lunch and Learn: Trajectory of the Pharmacy Profession

Professor Jeffery Bates will be hosting a Lunch and Learn on Thursday, March 31st entitled “Trajectory of the Pharmacy Profession: A Profession Centered On Providing Care, Not Just Medication.” During his presentations, Professor Bates will discuss where the profession of pharmacy has come from and where it is going. Below is a short description of what his presentation will cover.

“The Profession of pharmacy has long been associated solely with medication dispensing. Over the last decade, however, the role of the pharmisist has become more and more focused on meeting patient needs – whatever they happen to be. Looking forward, the “Primary Care Pharmacist” will serve patients and communities in a role that is much more autonomous. Patients will begin (and in many locations, already have) begun embracing the ease of access that pharmacists provide as well as their abilities to diagnose, determine optimal therapeutic approaches, and then to initiate and monitor appropriate treatment methods.

Please consider joining a dynamic conversation about how Pharmacists are now, through collaborative care approaches and through recent legislative means, meeting patient’s needs in America – well beyond simply dispensing medications. Those who have a preference to care for patients but are undecided on a specific career path may find this presentation very enlightening. Dr. Bates has been a strong leader in patient advocacy as well as in the field of pharmacy for nearly  years.”
