AmeriCorps is currently recruiting for full time positions that will begin in August 2016. Selected individuals will serve with their Family Literacy Program in many capacities, all with the objective of engaging parents in English language instruction. AmeriCorps members will actively encourage collaborative dual-generation learning for the entire family that is focused around developing literacy skills for children and caregivers. Below are descriptions of the available positions.
Family Literacy Instructors
AmeriCorp is looking for 6 individuals to teach adult ELL classes to parents of elementary students in GRPS/GHPS, and support parents in gaining skills and knowledge to become their child’s first and best teacher. Experience teaching or tutoring English language learners highly preferred.
Family Literacy Tutors
AmeriCorp is looking for 2 individuals to work alongside parents of children in local schools, teaching English reading, speaking, and writing skills via one-to-one tutoring. Experience tutoring preferred, ability to work independently and strong organizational skills necessary.
AmeriCorp is seeking an individual to coordinate volunteers to assist with Literacy Center of West Michigan programming. Recruit, manage and recognize volunteers. Extensive volunteer experience and/or volunteer management experience required.
Learner Support Advocate
AmeriCorp is seeking an individual to actively recruit and support program participants through relationship building, referrals, and pro-active communication. Manage intake and exit processes. Bilingual English-Spanish required, ability to quickly build relationships and strong organizational skills necessary.
