Honors Outstanding Scholar, 2016

The recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Scholar Award was Aaron Zebolsky. He was awarded this honor at the Senior Award Banquet on Thursday, May 5th. During his time at Ferris, Aaron has contributed over 250 service hours including mentoring on a weekly basis at the Big Rapids Middle School and serving as a hospice volunteer for patients in the Big Rapids area. For his service, Aaron received the 2015 Heart & Soul Award by the Michigan Campus Compact.

As for academic accomplishments, Aaron has job shadowed a local orthopedic surgeon for over 100 hours and spent a year as a research assistant in the Biology department at Ferris. They studies the cellular origins of malignant melanoma using zebrafish as a model organism. He, also, served as the first VP of Plan to Achieve Collegiate Excellence (PAC) for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) where he implemented the middle school mentoring program. He is currently the President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In addition to NSCS, Aaron served as the Secretary for Future Scholars Ubuntu and was a member of the Pre-medicine club and was regularly involved in intramural dodgeball, volleyball, and football.

Aaron’s future plan is to take a gap year and complete a MS in cancer chemical biology this fall at University of Michigan before entering medical school.

The Honors Program would like to commend Aaron as well as the other finalists for this award on their strong academic success.
