2016 Bulldog Beginnings Schedule

Can you believe it? The end of next week is the start of Bulldog Beginnings! Bulldog Beginnings is a event series of educational events and fun activities to kick off the Fall 2016 semester. Students will be able to meet their fellow students and enjoy free food, prizes, live music and much more. These events will center around Bulldog Values and the University’s Mission/Core Values. Below are a list of events that will be taking place during Bulldog Beginnings from Friday, August 26th through Friday, September 2nd.

Friday, August 26th 

  • First Impressions – 7:30am to 3:30pm, Various Main Campus Locations
    • There will be strategically placed tents around campus to help students looking for information about different Ferris State University resources.
  • Bulldog Welcome – 7:30 to 9:00pm, Top Taggart Field
    • An official address to Ferris students will be held by Ferris dignitaries. President Eisler and other high-ranking officials will be present to show students what it means to be a Bulldog.
  • Residence Hall Association Movie – 9:00pm, South Quad
    • “Captain America: Civil War” will be played in the South Quad, outside of The Rock. Entertainment is provided by the Residence Hall Association. Bringing a tarp or towel is recommended for your comfort.

Saturday, August 27th 

  • Big Rapids Beginnings – 3:00 to 6:00pm, Downtown Big Rapids
    • Join a fun time in downtown Big Rapids. Explore multiple venues and enjoy the services that the community has to offer. Shuttle transportation will be provided to local business downtown.
  • Meijer Mania – 7:00 to 10:00pm, Meijer Big Rapids
    • Come out for special events, giveaways, and bargains hosted by Meijer. Shuttle transportation is provided to and from Meijer from campus.
  • Late Night in the UC – 9:00pm to 12:00am, University Center
    • The University Center will have various events going on throughout the night. This event will include free food, video games, music, and more.

Sunday, August 28th 

  • VIP in the UC – 2:00 to 5:00pm, University Center
    • The University Center will host multiple events through the afternoon including a caricature artist and a photobooth.
  • Residence Hall Programming – All main campus residence halls
    • Resident Advisors will be putting on a variety of different programs throughout the day. For specific information, please contact your resident advisor.

Monday, August 29th 

  • First Day of Fall 2016 Semester Classes 
  • First Impressions – 7:30am to 3:30pm, Various Main Campus Locations
    • There will be strategically placed tents around campus to help students looking for information about different FSU resources.
  • Rec Fest – 5:00 to 8:00pm, Student Recreation Center
    • The Rec Center will be having an open house. Come enjoy free giveaways and festivities. Take part in a scavenger hunt to see all the Rec Center has to offer. The event will also feature the Club Sport Expo where you can learn about all 28 club sports at Ferris. The event will have information about the nine intramural sports provided, as well. Players may sign up for the teams during the event.

Tuesday, August 30th

  • Social Fest: Snapchat Challenge – 9:00am to 3:00pm
    • A Snapchat photo and video contest will take place for all students. Special Snapchat filters will be accessible in selected campus locations (the University Center, extending to the Quad and FLITE), for participation. Winners in photography and video categories will earn prizes. More details to follow.
  • Entertainment Unlimited: Throwback Time Machine – 9:00pm
    • Entertainment Unlimited is hosting a dance party that will transport the audience back in time, to the beginnings of pop music and take them through its evolution right up to the present day.

Wednesday, August 31st

  • Academic Support Center Open House – 8:30am to 5:30pm, Arts and Science Commons, Room 1017
    • The Academic Support Center invites you to visit their enhanced space in the Arts and Sciences Building at 820 Campus Drive.
  • Bulldog Beginnings Campus Beautification Project – 9:00am to 6:00pm, Various locations
    • Various service projects will take place at various times and places throughout campus. Click Bulldog Beginnings Campus Service Project Sign Up to sign up or get more details.

Thursday, September 1st 

  • Bulldog Women’s Soccer hosts Lewis (T-Shirt Exchange Game) – 1:00pm, Top Taggert Field
    • Ferris will be hosting a soccer game against Lewis University. Students get in free with their student ID card. You will also be able to swap out your high school T-shirt, or a T-shirt from another school for a brand new Bulldog T-shirt.
  • Founder’s Day Celebration: Ice Cream Social – 4:00 to 7:00pm, North Quad
    • September 1st marks the celebration day for Woodbridge N. and Helen Ferris and their contributions to the University. Enjoy ice cream served by celebrity and guest servers. Learn about campus service departments, volunteer agencies/opportunities in the area, Five-Star Registered Student Organizations, live music by Beach Thieves and City Sun, with special guest appearance by DJ CHOFF, and many games including the Survivor Obstacle Course, radio-controlled monster trucks, old-time photos, tattoos, and a Mechanical Bulldog.
  • Bulldog Football hosts Ohio Dominican – 7:00pm, Top Taggart Field
    • Ferris will host a football game against Ohio Dominican University. FSU students get in free with their ID. Ticket prices for others are as follows: $14 (adults), $12 (seniors 65+), $8 (K-12 students).
  • The Fifth Quarter – 9:00pm, Top Taggart Field
    • Stick around after the game for a fun-packed night. Watch as the field becomes a dance floor. DJ CHOFF will be present as part of the festivities.

Friday, September 2nd

  • Disc Golf – 2:00 to 4:00pm, FLITE
    • The FLITE Library will be a competitive field on Friday for indoor disc golf
