Study Abroad Opportunity: Wales (Swansea)

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is accepting applications for the annual Honors Semester Study Abroad Program at Swansea University through UNCW. Applications are now open for the Spring 2017 term. The program accepts applications for students interested in participating in either a 3-credit internship experience or a 3-credit pre-semester course in British Culture and Politics, completing a regular semester of course work from the Swansea University Catalog, and a two-hour honors seminar. Honors students can earn up to 17 U.S. semester credit at Swansea.

Swansea University, overlooking beautiful Swansea Bay, is situated within a large area of landscaped parkland within walking distance of the city center.  To the west is the lovely Gower Peninsula with its broad bays and sandy coves. Swansea is a modern city of 200,000 with well-equipped leisure centers and cultural facilities. London can be reached by train in about 2 1/2 hours. Students will be hosted by Dr. Randy Cottrell, Professor and Program Coordinator in Public Health at UNCW. He will be teaching one course at Swansea that examines public health issues as presented in film, plus an honors course in Global Health. Students will live with British students in the Hendrefoelan Student Village, an apartment style living arrangement.
