Participate in Ferris’ Concert Bands and Orchestra!

The Ferris Symphony Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra are looking for new members to join them! All of these groups count as an Honors RSO Activity. Below is all the information you would need to know about each group.

Orchestra: 

  • WHO – The Orchestra is open to ALL Ferris Students who are experienced string players.
  • WHEN/WHERE – They rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00-8:30pm in the Music Center
  • INSTRUMENTS – They have string instruments to check out, if you need one.
  • CREDIT – Orchestra can be taken for credit, as many semesters as you like. 1 credit per semester and up to 5 credits count for Cultural Enrichment. You can add the class now without prior approval (Chamber Orchestra: Music 271)
  • NON-CREDIT – Students who do not need to take Orchestra for credit can participate as a Non-Credit Student (free).
  • SCHOLARSHIPS – Students who participate both semester (Fall/Spring) can qualify for an annual scholarship, if they maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. All students qualify whether they take the course for credit or non-credit
  • INFORMATIONAL MEETING – The information meeting will be held Tuesday, August 30th at 7:00pm in the Music Center but you are able to sign up at any time by contacting Richard Cohen
  • FIRST REHEARSAL – Tuesday, September 5th at 7:00 in the Music Center

Symphony Band: 

  • WHO – This band is open to ALL Ferris students who are experienced brass, woodwind, and percussion players.
  • WHEN/WHERE – They rehearse once a week on Wednesday evenings, from 7:30-9:00pm in the Music Center
  • INSTRUMENTS – They have many instruments to check out, if you need one
  • CREDIT – Orchestra can be taken for credit, as many semesters as you like. 1 credit per semester and up to 5 credits count for Cultural Enrichment. You can add the class now without prior approval (Symphony Band: Music 160)
  • NON-CREDIT – Students who do not need to take Orchestra for credit can participate as a Non-Credit Student (free).
