Academic Support Center Speaker Series

The Academic Support Center hosts a speaker series each year with useful information on how to successfully navigate college. Below is the list of events in their annual series. The events are are considered “Cultural” will be labeled as such.

Academic Success Fair – Tuesday, September 27th in University Center from 10:00am – 1:00pm

  • Learn about all of the opportunities the Academic Support Center has to offer as well as other important resources on campus such as the Structured Learning Assistance Program, Educational Counseling and Disabilities Services, Center for Leadership Activities and Career Services, Office of International Education, Writing Center, Center for Latin@ Studies, Office of Multicultural Student Services, and many more.

“Communication, Choices, & Consent” (Cultural Event) – Thursday, September 29th in Williams Auditorium at 11:00am and 7:30pm

  • Kevin Carmody, the Title IX Coordinator and Associate Dean in the Student Life Office, and Elisa Cotter, University Counselor at Birkham Health, will be presenting on the importance of these three concepts on the safety and respect of others.

“Study Skills for Academic Success” – Tuesday, October 4th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Kimberly Smith, Paraprofessional for the Academic Support Center, will be presenting useful study skills for students.

“Social Networking & Personal Privacy: Cultivating your Online Persona” – Tuesday, October 11th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Carrie E. Donovan, Assistant Dean FLITE Administrative Services, will explain how to present yourself through ever expanding digital platforms.

“Academic Integrity” – Tuesday, October 18th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Kimberly Smith will be back to define and express the importance of academic integrity.

“Finding Success in Nontraditional Career Programs” – Tuesday, October 25th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Leigha Compson, University Career Programs Specialist in the College of Engineering Technology, will be presenting on nontraditional career programs and how they can be navigated as effectively as traditional programs.

“Financial Awareness” – Tuesday, November 1st in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Rebecca Vokes, Financial Aid Advisor, will offer tips for being successful financially as a college student.

“First Thoughts” (Cultural Event) – Tuesday, November 8th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Michael Wade, Assistant Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services, will go over what the Office of Multicultural Student Services has to offer students.

“Understanding Identity and Voice” (Cultural Event) – Tuesday, November 15th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Lisa Ortiz, Assistant Director of Residential Programs, will be presenting on the importance of understanding your own as well as others’ differing identities and voices.

“Professionalism on Social Media for College Students and Beyond” – Tuesday, November 29th in Science 102 from 11:00-11:50am

  • Jessica Simon, Coordinator of Communications and Visitor Services, will go in depth on how to remain professional on social media.
