Professor Pasquale Di Raddo will be hosting a Lunch and Learn on Thursday, October 13th entitled “Cartoon Depictions of Immigrants, Then and Now.” During his presentation, Professor Di Raddo will discuss the use of cartoon imagery’s effects on people’s biases. Below is a short description of what this Lunch & Learn will cover.

“As this election campaign draws to a close (finally), rather mean spirited things have been said about immigrants, in particular Mexicans, and the building of ‘walls.’ In this presentation I will talk about how the medium of cartoon imagery, in the form of newspaper editorial cartoons and images found on the internet, have dealt with this immigration issue, for well over now a hundred years. Bias toward strange looking Chinese and Japanese and incoming European immigrants, such as the dark skinned Jews and Italians, will be highlighted.”
