Lunch and Learn: Pharmacists and Drug Abuse

P2 students Rachel Pavona and Melanie Trinh will be presenting a Lunch and Learn on Thursday, October 27th entitled “Pharmacists and Drug Abuse.” During their presentation, Melanie and Rachel will speak about drug abuse in the United States and discuss the role of pharmacists on the issue. Below is a description of their Lunch and Learn.

“Drug abuse and overdose in Michigan (as well as the entire United States) is at an all-time high and rapidly growing. In Michigan alone, drug overdose is the #1 cause of injury-related death. Addiction is unique in the fact that it does not discriminate against rich, urban, rural, or poor. Drug abuse stretches to every corner of our state and country.

At this session, we [Melanie and Rachel] will be discussing the role of pharmacists and what we, as students, can do in combating drug abuse. After the presentation, we will open the discussion to any questions about Ferris’ pharmacy program, our organization, or the profession of pharmacy in general. Dr. Mark Young from the College of Pharmacy will be in attendance to answer questions as well.”
