Psychology Professor, Felix Smith, will be hosting a Lunch & Learn on Thursday, November 17thth entitled, “A Brief Overview of Mental Illness and Effective Treatment.” During his presentation, Dr. Smith will discuss mental illness and how it is treated. Below is a short description of his presentation:

“Mental illness is a significant issue in the United States and the world. Some studies suggest that almost half of people will suffer from a mental health disorder over the course of their lives. These problems can range from the mild to the profound and far reaching. Many people struggle to identify or understand mental health disorder in themselves or other. Further, mental health disorders are often stigmatized or viewed as willful, deliberate behavior.

In this presentation, Dr. Smith will provide an overview of how psychology as a profession define mental illness. We will talk about how common disorders are and some of the categories of mental health disorders. Finally, we will talk about effective treatment and how to see if treatment is effective.”
