The Festival of the Arts will be hosting a beginning basket weaving class on Saturday, February 4th from 9am to 3pm at Artworks. This event is a special opportunity for community members interested in learning the art of basket weaving. The workshops sponsored by Artworks during the regular year have a cost associated, but in celebration of the Festival of the Arts, The Association of Michigan Basketmakers (AMB) has made available funds from the Grace Kabel Foundation to cover the registration cost. The AMB’s mission is to develop and perpetuate the art of basketry. AMB members create basketry from a wide variety of materiels including reed, barks, wood splints, cane, waxed linen, beads, and gathered natural material. Representatives of the AMB will be present at the workshop, which will be taught by Jeanette Fleury and Nancy Randall.
