Cultural Event: One Billion Rising Dance to Disrupt

WISE, the Festival of the Arts and Artworks present “One Billion Rising Dance to Disrupt! Art in Protest of Violence Against Women and Girls” on Friday, February 10th at 5pm at the West Campus Community Center. This child-friendly event emphasizes the power of art to disrupt for social change. One Billion Rising, the international campaign against domestic abuse and sexual violence, features art and its power to bring about social change. The evening will feature drumming and dancing, exhibitions by the Ferris State University Dance Team and The Secret Belly Dancers in addition to invitations or audience participation – all to help bring about an end to violence against women and girls.

As playwright and activist, Eve Ensler, states, “We must learn to art and practice of disruption. We must release the tentacles of our false securities and interrupt the world as we know it. We must become disrupters. That is the power of creative resistance. Interrupting business as usual, taking stands that forfeit our acceptance or economic elevation, risking disapproval and controversy, participating in actions that loosen our grip on the suicidal givens and push the tyrants to fall. Disrupters, fighting and dancing with all our might for life over comfort.”
