Recurring themes, images, symbols, and ideas that one sees in the works of some of the twentieth century’s most important African American writers. The substance will vary: poerty, fiction (i.e., the novel and the short story) and some drama will be read. Nella Larsen, Wright, McPherson, Brooks, and Baraka will be studies.
