Volunteer Opportunity: 2017 Music Takes Action

Entertainment Unlimited is hosting the 2017 Music Takes Action and they are in need of volunteers to help them set up, run, and tear down the event on Thursday, March 23rd and Friday, March 24th. They will need helping setting up on Thursday and will have shifts to sign up for on Friday from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

Music Takes Action is a benefit concert held on campus at Ferris State University by the campus programming board, Entertainment Unlimited. The main focus of the event is to entertain the student body, educate and raise awareness of a chosen charity, this year being the local animal shelter, ARC of Mecosta County. The majority of students who took the Ferris survey chose animal welfare as the cause they care about most. Donations will be accepted leading up to the event, as well as at Wink Arena on the day of the show. Donations can be monetary or tangible such as dog food, cat litter, etc. See a full list of needed items from ARC at: arcofmecostacounty.com. Below are this year’s acts.

Frankie Ballard 

This year, Entertainment Unlimited excited to announce or headliner, Frankie Ballard. Frankie is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Battle Creek, Michigan. He combines country, rock and blues genres. His latest album, “El Rio,” has been selected by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Best Country and Americana albums of  and features “Cigarette,” “It All Started with a Beer,” “L.A. Woman,” and “El Camino.” In 2014, Ballard’s successful singles include “Sunshine and Whiskey” and “Young and Crazy.”

A Thousand Horses

A Thousand Horses consists of Michael Hobby (Lead Vocal), Bill Satcher (Lead Guitar), Zach Brown (Guitar and Vocal) and Graham Deloach (Bass and Vocal). ATH sound ranges from low-country blues, old school soul, drawling rock and muscular country. The band currently has one released album, “Southernality,” which debuted on Billboard’s Top Country Albums at No. 3. You won’t want to miss seeing A Thousand Horses perform their hit song “Smoke” at Music Takes Action.

Spike the Media

Spike the Media, a Ferris student band, is a progressive rock group from Muskegon, Michigan. The group consists of Brendan Martin, Jordan Martin (guitar and vocals), Lauren Martin (bass and vocals), and Devon Lamrock (drums). The band’s influences include Foo Fighters, Bring Me to the Horizon, John Mayer, Radiohead, Rush, Dream Theater, and many others. With so many inspirations, Spike the Media tends to be rather eclectic, but rock rooted.
