The College of Pharmacy, College of Health Professions, Michigan College of Optometry, College of Arts and Sciences, and Educational Counseling and Disability Services are hosting an event entitled “Words Matter: Musing & Perspectives from a Big Blue Wheelchair” on Tuesday, April 11th from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the UC Room 202ABC. During the event, W. Thomas “Tommy” Smith, PharmD, JD will discuss equity in the classroom.
Like all cultures, the culture of disability has adopted a common language to empower its members, as well as identified that is hurtful. Tommy teaches others about using language that is inclusive, as well as not making assumptions about others. Examples of this will be discussed, as well as many other ways to promote a culture of sensitivity and build an inclusive campus climate at Ferris.
