In celebration of National Poetry Month, two Department of English, Literature, and World Languages, Dr. John Cullen and Dr. Deirdre Fagan, will be presenting a Lunch & Learn on Thursday, April 20th entitled “The Making of Poetry.” During their presentation, Professors Cullen and Fagan, who are both published poets, will discuss poetry and the creative process as well as demystify the making of poetry and inspire other to give it a try. Below is a short description of what their presentation will cover.
“The writing of poetry is often considered a magical process. People imagine poets scribbling poems as the muse whispers only to them. This romanticized image radically skews how the deed is done. In fact, few people have exposure to poets truly engaged in the work of poetry, and rarely does the public image of the poet provide clarity about what poets actually do, or how a person becomes a writer of poetry.”
