Domestic Study Abroad Story: Ashley May

Ferris Honors student, Ashley May, recently attended a conference in Dallas, TX! Below is a short blurb about her experience as well as some of her favorite pictures from the trip. Thank you, Ashley, for sharing!

“This past September when I got the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas for the Gamma Iota Sigma Conference, which is a conference held for the professional fraternity for Actuarial Science, Risk Management, and Insurance students, I learned so much. Being only a sophomore in my program, I still have a lot to learn about Actuarial Science and if it is the right route for me, however this conference helped ensure my decision. I was able to go to classroom sessions that explained more about the actuarial exams, professional development sessions that helped with interviewing, and most importantly, I was able to attend the career fair and network with potential employers.

Although I was very nervous to attend this conference and have to go to my first career fair, I believe it prepared me for future, similar situations. Going to the career fair at Ferris State was much less nerve-racking and I was able to land an interview with an insurance company because of the experience I gained from the conference. In addition to that, I feel that I gained more knowledge to in how to prepare myself to be successful as an Actuarial Science major, and I am now very excited for what my future could potentially hold and motivated to put the necessary time to get myself to the place I want to be.”
