Honors student, Sean Williams, is planning on starting a new Students Registered Organization called the Special Olympics College Club. While there are a few different RSOs on campus that do philanthropic work with Area 5 Special Olympics (Mecosta and Osceola counties), this RSO will focus soley on that. Philanthropic work will certainly be continues by this new RSO as Area 5 receives all of their funding from donations and fundraisers, but there will be a large emphasis on creating long-lasting relationships with Special Olympians in the Big Rapids (and surrounding) community. This will be done through Unified Sports (collegians playing sports alongside the Special Olympians), but also through creating friendships and building those friendships beyond the realm of sport.
This RSO will be perfect for anyone with a passion for Special Olympics, along with those looking for community service opportunities. They hope to have the RSO up and running within the next month with a solid group of students to help further their vision into next year since the founders of the RSO will no longer be at Ferris starting next year.
