As part of the Festival of the Arts, the MountainTown Singers will be performing at the United Church of Big Rapids on Saturday, February 17th at 7:00pm. The MountainTown Singers are a premier a cappella singing group that rehearses on the Central Michigan University Campus and performs throughout the State of Michigan. They compete regionally and nationally in barbershop harmony competitions, having captured first place in four district competitions and appearing six times in competition on the international stage. The MountainTown Singers have been creating exciting a cappella music in central Michigan since 2004.
The chapter’s annual vocal music camp, MountainTown Harmony Explosion, has provided hundreds of young singers an opportunity to experience and understand a true American art form, barbershop singing. As a part of its altruistic purpose, the chorus also provides music in area assisted living facilities and for educational and community activities.
The group is led by Kyle “Doc” Howard, who became the musical director of the MountainTown Singers in December of 2016. Kyle holds B.S. in Music Education from Bryan College in Dayton, TN. He has worked as a music teacher at every level from kindergarten to high school, teaching general music, music theory, choir, and band. Doc has also served as choir director in various churches.
