“Suor Angelica” Opera Cultural Event

As part of the Festival of the Arts, The West Michigan Opera Project will be presenting “Suor Angelica” on Saturday, February 24th at 7:00pm at the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church. Suor Angelica is a one-act opera in Italian presented with subtitles. The opera takes place in a convent as the resident nuns go about their daily lives of service, prayer, and sacrifice. One member of the order, Sister Angelica, has hidden herself from her past behind the Abby walls and buried her most earnest wish – to once again embrace her illegitimate son – deep within her soul. Unbeknownst to Angelica, the boy has died. When her aunt (the Princess) visits and reveals the loss to her, Angelica becomes suicidal, feeling the only redemption is to meet her son…and God.

There will be a light reception following the performance, graciously provided by the General Federation of Women’s Club Big Rapids, where the audience will have an opportunity to meet and participate in a talk-back session with the cast.
