Dominican Republic Study Abroad Story: Cindy Tran

Recent Honors graduate, Cindy Tran, traveled to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip recently. For her trip, Cindy utilized the Honors Funded Travel Scholarship. Below is Cindy’s reflection on her trip as well as some of her favorite photos!

“I am back from my service trip to the Dominican Republic. During the trip we provided health care to rural and under served populations. We held multiple health clinics and made house visits. We helped over 150 people at the clinic in Martin Alonzo. Being able to participate in these clinics whether it was working triage and taking vital signs, observing the doctors, or working in the pharmacy was a great learning experience. It gave me first hand exposure to patients and an opportunity to practice skills that I will need as a doctor. We also toured one of the hospitals while we were there which was a really humbling experience in addition to working the clinics. Their hospital was very outdated compared to ours and it showed how different healthcare is in the United States versus less developed areas.”
