Honors student, Mari Suokko, utilized the Honors Funded Travel Scholarship to study abroad in Italy this summer. Below is a reflection of Mari’s experience. For photos of the trip, please visit Mari’s blogspot blog. Thank you for sharing!
“Studying abroad in Italy was simply an incredible experience. Being an Italian (my grandmother was full-blooded Italian), I could not wait to experience the culture of Italy. We visited Rome, Capri Island, Venice, Florence, and Pisa. The memories we captured frequently in photos in which many were posted daily on the Ferris State Blog that I was put in-charge of. In thinking about my favorite sites, I loved seeing the Colosseum, the Vatican and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Capri Island was also beautiful. You cannot visit Italy and not talk about the food! Well I can tell you, the pizza and pasta were delicious! This trip would not have been as nearly educational if not for Professor John Caserta and his wife Lilia. Not only did they teach us the history of various historic buildings and artworks, they also taught us about the culture of Italy. I enjoyed learning how to communicate with those that do not speak the same language as me. I am thankful for this opportunity and will forever cherish the memories and friendships I made.”
