Each year, the Honors Program organizes a series of service projects so honors students can serve and get to know our community. Honors students facilitate the projects and organize transportation as needed. We hope you’ll get involved!
Saturday, August 27 10 AM to 1 PM: Riverwalk Cleanup. Meet at the sculpture near the parking lot of the Eisler Center. Gloves and bags will be available for the first 30 participants, and everyone else can attend as an honors community/cultural event. Participants will walk to the Riverwalk park and pick up trash. Volunteers won’t sign up in advance.
Sunday, August 28 1 – 3 PM: Muskegon River Trash Bash. Meet in front of the Rec Center. Wear closed-toe, nonslip shoes that can get wet. Participants will clean a section of the Muskegon River near campus. Volunteers won’t sign up in advance.
Friday, September 9 3 – 6 PM Big Rapids Community Garden. Volunteers will mow, clean a garden, and plant perennials. Sign up here.
Saturday, September 10 12 to 2:30 PM: Big Rapids Community Library. Volunteers will clean up the garden, the basement storage area, and the library. Sign up here.
Sunday, September 11 1 – 3 PM: Adopt-a-Fairway. Volunteers will clean up a fairway of the Big Rapids disc golf course, learn about disc golf, and try the sport. This counts as both a service project and as a cultural event. Sign up here.
Friday, September 16 9 AM – 12 PM. Invasive Species Eradication. Emma Costantino of North Country CISMA will do a presentation on invasive species and have volunteers remove invasive plants in Big Rapids. This counts as both a service project and a cultural event. Sign up here.
Friday, September 16 1 – 4 PM Angels of Action. Volunteers will sort through donations to their Give Store. Sign up here.
Sunday, September 18 1 – 3 PM Evergreen Terrace Assisted Living. Volunteers will clean windows outdoors. Sign up here.
Friday, September 23 1 – 3 PM Adopt-a-White Pine Trail. Volunteers will clean up a three-mile stretch of the White Pine Trail, a bike trail that goes through Big Rapids. Sign up here.
Sunday, September 25 1 – 3 PM Adopt-a-Highway. Volunteers will watch a brief training video and clean up a stretch of M-20. Sign up here.
Friday, September 30: 1- 3 PM Our Brother’s Keeper, a local shelter. Volunteers will clean out two sheds. Sign up here.
Saturday, October 1: 8 AM – 4 PM. CranHill Ranch. Volunteers will do outdoor work at this beautiful Christian camp. Lunch will be served. Sign up here.
