We are planning on taking students to a play at Actor’s Theatre in Grand Rapids this Fall and we are wondering which play you would all be interested in attending. There is a poll up on our twitter (@FerrisHonors) for two different performances. Below are descriptions of each.

Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play (Runs from 9/29 to 10/8) by Anne Washburn

“After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of The Simpsons episode “Cape Feare” entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles, and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Seventy-five years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created. Mr. Burns is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.”

American Idiot (Runs from 10/27 to 11/12) by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer

“American Idiot is a sung-through stage adaptation of punk rock band Green Day’s rock opera, American Idiot. The story, expanded from that of the concept album, centers on three disaffected young men looking for meaning in life. They escape suburbia to try out the freedom and excitement of the city. One quickly gives up on life in the city, joins the military, and is shipped off to war. Another turns to drugs and find a part of himself that he grows to dislike. American Idiot is an exploration of ideological freedom and the harsh realities of the world.”
