Kevin Simon attended Ferris State University beginning in 2004. While at Ferris, he was involved in many groups and organizations. In addition to being in the Honors Program, Kevin was also a member of Student Government and its Finance Division, the Accounting Association, the Newman Center for Catholic Students, the Habitat for Humanity Ferris Chapter, and also the Honors Student Advisory Board. In addition, Kevin worked on campus as an Orientation Leader.
As an undergraduate, Kevin had the opportunity to represent the Ferris State University Honors Program at The Washington Center’s “Leaders on Leadership” Academic Seminar in Washington D.C. This six-day seminar included representatives from over 100 different college Honors programs across the United States.
Being in Honors has had a large influence on Kevin in his life. The cultural events and community service requirements were great opportunities to become a more diverse and appreciative person. Living in an Honors hall allowed Kevin to be in an environment that promoted learning and building relationships with the other Honors students. Some of Kevin’s greatest friendships were a result of living in the Honors halls. He also met his wife Jennifer, an Optometry student at Ferris, in the Honors Program.
During college, Kevin was an intern with BDO Seidman, USA in their tax department. Upon graduation in 2007 from Ferris, he continued to work at BDO while pursuing his Masters Degree. In August 2009, Kevin graduated with his Masters of Science in Accountancy from Grand Valley State University.
In 2010 Kevin transitioned to Nienhuis Financial Group in Grandville, MI where he specialized in business management and consulting. In 2013, Kevin became the business manager/CFO if the Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary schools, overseeing the financial management of Catholic Central High School and West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids, MI. In 2016, he was promoted to the Comptroller position for the Diocese of Grand Rapids, overseeing the accounting and financial reporting for the diocese.
He is more than happy to speak with past, present, and future Ferris students regarding the Honors Program or the accounting field. He can be contacted at kevinsimon@dioceseofgrandrapids.org and http://www.dioceseofgrandrapids.org/diocese/Administration/Pages/Finance.aspx#.VwU6K_krJhE.
